Tapadum begann in den ruhigen Jahren der Pandemie. Als die Konzertsäle geschlossen waren, wandte sich unser Gründer Ozgur Yalcin — Komponist und Frontmann des türkischen Ensembles Kara Gunes — von der Bühne ab und der Werkbank zu. Er reiste durch die Türkei und den Iran, verbrachte Monate bei Meister-Geigenbauern in kleinen Werkstätten und sah, was die meisten Musiker außerhalb ihres Heimatlandes längst wissen: Gut gebaute ethnische Instrumente sind fast unmöglich zu finden. Zu oft ist das, was wie eine Oud oder ein Santur aussieht, nur Dekoration — schön, aber unspielbar. Zwei Jahre später, 2022, eröffnete Tapadum in Italien. Heute liegt unser Showroom in Villa Vezzano, einem kleinen Dorf bei Brisighella, während zwei Werkstätten in Izmir — eine für Percussion, eine für Saiteninstrumente — Instrumente für Spieler bauen, die mehr als Aussehen wollen. Was wir nicht selbst spielen würden, verkaufen wir nicht.

Manchmal entsteht die beste Musik, wenn das Konzert offiziell vorbei ist. Nach unserem Auftritt bei Sonnenaufgang auf La Musica nelle Aie 2026 blieben drei von uns mit drei Instrumenten zurück — einer Handpan, einer Violine und einer Rahmentrommel — und ließen den Morgen das Gespräch tragen. Ein paar ruhige Minuten Improvisation, aufgenommen irgendwo zwischen dem Ende eines Liedes und dem Anfang von nichts Bestimmtem.

Aufgenommen bei La Musica nelle Aie 2026, im Hügelland oberhalb von Faenza, Romagna — einem Folk- und Weltmusikfestival, das jeden Mai auf den alten Aie (Dreschplätzen) dieser Hügel stattfindet. Tapadum war an beiden Festivaltagen mit einem Stand vertreten — Instrumente zum Ausprobieren, Begegnungen mit Musikern aus der ganzen Weltmusik-Szene.

Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. We ship from Italy to most countries. Shipping is free across the EU and free worldwide on orders over €450; smaller international orders use standard rates. Delivery is 1-2 days in Italy, 1-5 days across the EU, and 1-5 weeks elsewhere depending on destination.
Will I be charged customs or import duties?
Not within the European Union — Tapadum ships from Italy, so EU customers pay no additional customs duties. Outside the EU, customs may apply depending on your country’s import rules and remain the buyer’s responsibility.
Can I return an instrument if it isn't right for me?
Yes. You have 15 days from delivery to return any instrument in its original condition for a full refund. If the return is due to transit damage or our error, we cover return shipping; otherwise return shipping is yours.
Will my instrument arrive in tune?
We tune every instrument before it leaves the workshop, but tuning naturally shifts during shipping — especially over long routes. Most musicians prefer to settle the instrument into their own ear once it arrives. We include setup notes with each piece.
Are your instruments authentic and hand-crafted?
Every instrument in our catalogue is made by hand — most in our own Izmir workshops (percussion and strings), the rest by master luthiers we work with personally across Anatolia, Persia and the Mediterranean. No factory-produced pieces, no white-label imports. Each one is checked by a working musician before it ships.
Can I order a custom-built instrument?
Yes. Our Izmir workshops take on one-off and small-batch custom builds — your wood, your scale, your design idea. We walk you through every step. See our Tapadum Customs page or contact us with your project.
