Persian Daf Workshop with Masih Karimi at Tapadum
Masih Karimi led a Persian daf workshop at Tapadum Ethnic Music Store on January 7, 2024, tracing the instrument's technique and its deep roots in Sufi music.
On January 7, 2024, Masih Karimi led a workshop on the Persian daf at Tapadum Ethnic Music Store — the fundamentals of playing technique and the instrument’s long history within Sufi music, alongside more advanced technique and repertoire for percussionists and musicians of any background who wanted to go deeper into Daf repertoire and Persian-Kurdish rhythms.
Karimi is a multidisciplinary artist — painter and musician — who began on classical violin before moving through electric guitar and rock, discovering ethnic music and maqam in 2002 and dedicating himself since to the daf and tanbur. A student of master Ali Akbar Moradi, he earned his teaching certification in daf and tanbur in 2007. Since relocating to Italy in 2021 and studying at Turin’s Accademia Albertina, he formed the band Soma with Peppe Frana and Ciro Montanari, performing in Rome, Faenza, Naples, and Nice.
Five people joined the workshop, with seventeen more following along online.
