On February 28 and March 1, 2026, Berlin-based percussionist Hogir Göregen returned to Tapadum for a two-day workshop on Middle Eastern percussion — practical technique on darbuka, riq, daf, and bendir (frame drum), built up across six stages: a general introduction to the instruments, traditional technique, modern technique, Göregen’s own special techniques, traditional rhythms, and rhythm variations, with the detailed program shaped around the participants themselves.

Born in 1986 in Bitlis/Tatvan, Göregen moved to Istanbul in 1990, where his musical interest began at age nine in a children’s choir organized by the Mesopotamia Culture Center, before he turned to traditional frame drums — davul, darbuka, and erbane (daf). Further study took him to India in 2006, 2011, and 2013 for tabla lessons with Pandit Charanjit Chatur Lal, and he relocated to Berlin in 2013, where he now performs with Heval Trio and a wide range of international musicians and bands.

Three people joined the workshop, with thirteen more following along online.
