Ceyhun Kaya & Petra Nachtmanova: Folk Songs of Anatolia at Tapadum
Berlin-based duo Ceyhun Kaya and Petra Nachtmanova brought Anatolian saz and Georgian panduri together for an evening of Eastern European, Anatolian, and Caucasian folk song at Tapadum.
On June 26, 2024, Berlin-based duo Ceyhun Kaya and Petra Nachtmanova brought folk songs of Eastern Europe, Anatolia, and the Caucasus to Tapadum Ethnic Music Store — an unusual pairing of the Anatolian saz and the Georgian panduri, two distant cousins in the three-string lute family.
Kaya, originally from the Black Sea region, is a founding member of the well-known Turkish bands Cümbüş Cemaat and Bandista and has performed as a soloist with Pinhani and Fuat Saka, among others; he has lived in Berlin since 2015. Nachtmanova, after studying history, developed a passion for the folk songs of Eastern Europe, Anatolia, and Central Asia — she sang for years with Bulgarian Voices Berlin, co-founded the Berlin band Tralalka, and appears in the documentary “SAZ.”
Thirteen people came, with seventy-five more following along online.
