On November 12, 2023, Karkum Project joined Özgür Yalçın for a concert near Brisighella. Karkum Project is an “open project” founded by violinist Claudio Merico and singer-songwriter Giulia Tripoti, centered on world music and the culture of peoples — an ongoing collaborative platform for independent productions and artistic work with a social dimension.
Active since 2018, Karkum Project has produced documentaries on Southern Italian folk traditions, researched and revived traditional songs from Central Italy, released the pandemic-era video “Earth Mother” with musicians from Italy, Spain, China, and Iran, organized the multicultural “Tufello World Music Festival” in Rome, and built recurring collaborations exploring Anatolian, Bulgarian, Sephardic, and Spanish flamenco repertoire. Their research fed into the 2022 album “Aljama” and the 2023 album “Sahira — Storie di donne eroiche,” featuring guest artists from across the Mediterranean, India, and Africa.
