Trio Karimi Frana Montanari at Bertoni Bottega e Cucina
On January 7, 2024, Trio Karimi Frana Montanari performed at Bertoni Bottega e Cucina in Castel Bolognese, closing a full day of Tapadum modal-music workshops.
The day of workshops on January 7, 2024 — Peppe Frana on modal music, Masih Karimi on Persian daf — closed with a concert at Bertoni Bottega e Cucina in Castel Bolognese, where the two joined Ciro Montanari as the Trio Karimi Frana Montanari: Masih Karimi on tanbur and daf, Peppe Frana on oud and robab, Ciro Montanari on tabla and udu.
The trio’s music draws on the shared modal and rhythmic ground stretching from the Maghreb to the Indian subcontinent, built into an original, syncretic language shaped by Iranian Kurdish, North Indian, Afghan, and Anatolian traditions.
Twenty-five people came for the concert, with over a hundred more following along online, and the evening closed with a jam session.
