Mofakheri is an Iranian luthier working in the long-necked lute tradition, building handcrafted Persian tanboors from aged mulberry and walnut. Each instrument follows centuries of regional practice — a pear-shaped mulberry bowl, a slender walnut neck, and tied gut frets arranged for the microtonal modes of the sacred repertoire.

The tanboor is among the most tradition-bound of Iranian lutes, and Mofakheri’s builds stay close to its devotional roots: instruments made to be played with the bare fingers, voiced for the dry, meditative sound at the heart of Kurdish and Yarsan music rather than for projection or display.

Every Mofakheri tanboor in our collection is curated by Tapadum’s string specialist Sertan Sarioglu, who checks each piece for tuning stability, fret positioning, and string response before it leaves our Brisighella, Italy showroom.
