Kemal Ucok
Ney Maker
Maker of the Turkish ney — reed flutes hand-carved from cane seasoned through a fifteen-year drying process, offered across the traditional Kiz/Yildiz/Mansur/Bolahenk/Supurde tunings and built to order for left- or right-handed players.
Kemal Ucok makes the Turkish ney, the end-blown reed flute at the heart of Sufi and classical Ottoman music. Each ney is cut from cane grown in Turkey’s Ege, Marmara, and Mediterranean regions and set through a fifteen-year drying process before it is carved and shaped by hand — a slow seasoning the workshop credits for the instrument’s tonal richness, durability, and resonance.
The full range covers five traditional tunings — B (Kiz), C (Yildiz), A (Mansur), E (Bolahenk), and D (Supurde) — each built to order for left- or right-handed players and supplied with a protective case, giving players entry into an instrument long associated with meditative and spiritual practice as much as performance.
