Description
This Persian santur sticks set contains three pairs of traditional zahme (mezrab) and a hinged case. It is made for santur players who go through sticks regularly, such as students in weekly lessons, teachers and performing musicians, and who want spare pairs ready. Every stick has a curved finger grip and felt on the striking face of its head; with three pairs, one can stay in daily use while two wait in reserve.
Three Pairs for Practice and Performance
Santur sticks are light and slender, and over months of playing they wear: the felt thins, and a shaft can crack after a fall. Having three pairs means a broken or worn pair never interrupts your practice. Many players also keep one pair with fresh felt for concerts and recordings, and use another for everyday study.
Like all Persian santur mallets, these sticks are held between the thumb, index and middle fingers, with the curved grip giving the fingers a fixed point. The stick pivots in that light hold and rebounds from the strings, which is how fast tremolos are played.
Felt Striking Face
A strip of felt covers the striking face of each head. It takes the edge off the attack and gives the note a rounder start than bare wood, which produces a sharper, brighter sound. When the felt has worn thin, the tone hardens; renew the felt or move on to the next pair in the set.

Who This Set Is For
The set is a practical choice for students, who break and wear sticks faster while their technique settles, for teachers who lend sticks during lessons, and for performers who want backups in the instrument case. If you only need one extra pair, see our single pair of Persian santur sticks with case.
You will find strings, tools and other sticks in our santur accessories, and instruments in the santur and hammered dulcimer collection.
Music and Traditions
The Persian santur is a central instrument of Persian classical music. Its repertoire, the radif, is organised in modes called dastgah, and the instrument carries its strings in groups of four over two rows of nine bridges. Light sticks held in the fingers let the player cross these courses quickly, in solo improvisation and in ensemble playing.
Care and Storage
Return the sticks to the case after playing, so the thin shafts are not bent or snapped in a bag. Keep the case in a room without strong heat or damp, since wood reacts to changes in humidity. Check the felt and the shafts from time to time, and set aside any pair with a cracked shaft or lifting felt until it is repaired.
