Description
The om steel tongue drum places the most recognised symbol of yoga and meditation at the centre of a calming instrument. This 10-note steel tongue drum is tuned in D Kurd (D minor) — the gentle, meditative scale at the heart of the handpan world — and its bronze face is engraved with the Om symbol inside a radiant mandala, a focal point that settles the eye as the tones settle the mind.
Materials & body
The shell is cut from resonant steel and given a warm antique-bronze finish under a protective coating, so the surface keeps its glow with very little care. At the centre, the Om mandala is etched directly into the metal — part of the steel itself, never a sticker or print, so it will not peel or fade with playing.
The tongues & tuning
Ten tuned tongues are cut into the playing surface and voiced in D Kurd (D minor), a forgiving scale where every tongue sits in harmony with the others — there are no “wrong” notes. Struck with the mallets or played with bare fingers, each tongue gives a clean, sustained tone with a soft, bell-like decay.
Om symbol & meaning
In yoga and meditation, Om represents the primordial sound — the vibration from which everything is said to arise. Engraving it at the heart of an instrument built on vibration feels fitting: each note you play radiates outward from that same still centre. It makes this model a natural choice for a yoga studio, a meditation corner, or a meaningful gift. For a purely geometric focal point in the same scale, see the Geometric Mandala tongue drum.
