Description
The Handpan Arsha Nitrided – 9 Notes D Kurd in Matte Black wraps the world’s most-loved handpan scale in pure, light-absorbing shadow. Its nitrided steel surface wears a soft, non-reflective black — understated and tactile, more velvet than mirror — a quiet finish that lets the meditative D Kurd scale take centre stage.
Every handpan begins as two domed shells joined at the rim, played with the fingers and the heels of the palms. The Arsha’s upper shell carries the low central doum and eight tone fields; the lower shell holds the gu port that frees the bass. It is built to stay beginner-friendly, so calming melodies arrive from the very first session.
Matte and Grounded
The matte black finish is the most understated in the Arsha range, and the most quietly confident. Nitriding hardens the steel and colours it a deep, even black, left without a polish so the surface drinks the light rather than throwing it back. There are no reflections to distract the eye and no fingerprints to chase — just a calm, grounded shadow that keeps all the attention on the sound. It is the finish for players who prefer stillness to spectacle, the understated counterpart to the Gloss Black Arsha.
Why the D Kurd Scale?
The matte finish and the D Kurd scale share the same temperament: calm, deep and unhurried. D Kurd (D minor) is the most forgiving handpan scale, its nine notes arranged so they always sit well together, which is why it remains the first choice for newcomers and a lifelong favourite for many. Warm and contemplative, it rewards slow, mindful playing — a natural fit for sound healing, yoga and meditation.

Care & Maintenance
A matte finish is famously low-maintenance. Wipe it now and then with a soft, dry microfiber cloth after playing, and avoid abrasive cloths, steel wool or harsh solvents that could leave shiny marks on the even surface. Nitrided steel resists rust well, but in humid or coastal climates a very light handpan oil can be applied sparingly and buffed in. Store it in a padded case, away from direct sun and damp.
