Description
The Handpan Tapadum Pro – 9 Notes D Kurd Scale is our workshop’s signature take on the world’s most-loved handpan tuning — a warm, meditative D Kurd (D minor) voice built for sound healing, yoga, meditation, and ambient performance. Individually tuned and tested at our workshop, it carries the calm, forgiving character that makes D Kurd the most widely played handpan scale in the world, wrapped in the finish and detailing of our signature Pro line.
Scale & Sound Character
Tuned in D Kurd (D minor), this handpan pairs a low central ding with eight surrounding tone fields that voice the scale’s natural minor, Phrygian-leaning intervals. The result is a sound that feels contemplative rather than dramatic — deep, rounded bass under the ding, and clear, singing overtones across the tone fields that sustain long enough to layer notes into slow, breathing phrases. Played with fingertips, palm heels, and the flat of the hand, the instrument rewards a light touch, opening into fuller harmonics the longer a phrase is allowed to ring.
This is the tuning most sound healers and meditation teachers reach for first: forgiving under the hands, easy to improvise on, and equally at home in a quiet solo session, a group sound bath, or blended into ambient and world-music arrangements. Its natural minor colour sits comfortably behind voice, flute, or looped pads without fighting for space.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The shell is hand-shaped from stainless steel in two domed halves joined at the rim, finished in a warm bronze-gold tone that darkens slightly with handling and oiling over time. A hand-woven paracord rim in brown and burgundy wraps the seam, doubling as grip and cushioning against knocks, and a matching paracord carrying handle is fitted to the top shell for quick handling in and out of the case. Each tone field is hand-hammered and tuned individually against the ding, then checked for volume balance and clean sustain before it leaves the workshop.
Who It’s For
Within our handpan collection, the Tapadum Pro line sits at the top of our own workshop range — the instrument we build and test in-house, alongside the curated Arsha, Voice Sky, and Melodinng series. Where those lines cover entry-level through premium price points, Pro is our own signature build: a full-bodied 9-note voice finished to the same standard we hold for every instrument that carries the Tapadum name, and shipped ready to play in its hard case.
The Handpan Tapadum Pro suits sound healers running sound-bath and breathwork sessions, yoga and meditation teachers who want a stable, reliable tone in the room, and intermediate players moving up from an entry-level handpan into a fuller-voiced Pro instrument. It also performs well for buskers, composers scoring ambient or cinematic pieces, and anyone building a home meditation or music practice around a single, expressive percussion voice.

Care & Maintenance
Store the handpan in a dry environment, away from humidity, direct sunlight, and sudden temperature changes, and keep it in its hard case whenever it is not in use. Wipe the shell with a soft, dry cloth after each playing session to remove moisture and skin oils before they can mark the steel. Apply a light coat of protective oil every 15 to 20 days to keep the finish even and guard against oxidising, and avoid dropping the instrument or striking the rim against hard surfaces. Always transport it in the included case to protect the tuning and the finish on the road.
