Description

The Handpan Harmony – 9 Notes D Kurd is the refined voice of the world’s most-loved handpan scale: a 9-note D minor (D Kurd) instrument tuned for harmonic richness, where every note blooms with its full set of overtones. As the name suggests, our Harmony line is built for players who want the cleanest, most resonant D Kurd voice — the fundamental, octave, and fifth of each note ringing together in balance.

Shaped from raw stainless steel, the Harmony pairs a bright, singing attack with a long, even sustain and natural rust resistance. It is tuned with particular attention to overtone balance, so the instrument keeps a warm, glassy clarity from the deep central doum to the highest tone field — a voice that stays musical whether you play soft meditative phrases or full melodic runs.

Like every handpan, it is formed from two domed steel shells joined at the rim. The top shell carries the central doum surrounded by eight concave tone fields, each hand-tuned to its place in the scale, while the lower shell holds the gu port that releases the bass and shapes the resonance. Played with the fingers and the heels of the palms, it answers with layered, sustained tone.

Why the D Kurd Scale?

D Kurd — D minor with a natural seventh — is the most popular handpan scale in the world and the most forgiving for new players: its contemplative, Phrygian-leaning character means the notes always sit well together. It is the scale most associated with sound healing, yoga, meditation, and ambient music, yet it has the depth for serious composition. The Harmony takes this familiar scale and gives it a particularly clean, harmonically rich rendering.

The Harmony Handpan in D Kurd

Within our range, the Handpan Harmony sits at the refined end of our 9-note D Kurd handpans — a step above the entry-level Voice Sky and alongside the premium Melodinng, for players who prize tuning precision and overtone bloom. Care & Maintenance

Stainless steel keeps the Harmony naturally rust-resistant, but a little care preserves its tone. Wipe the surface with a dry microfiber cloth after playing, and apply a light handpan oil occasionally, especially in humid or coastal climates. Keep it out of direct sun and intense heat, which can affect tuning, and store and travel with it in a padded case — a safety bag or hard cargo case is available.

Every Tapadum handpan is checked and tuned to 440 Hz before it ships. Free Shipping & 15-day return apply across the EU — reach out if you would like help choosing your handpan.

What makes the Harmony handpan different?
It is tuned for harmonic richness and overtone balance — a particularly clean, resonant rendering of the D Kurd scale at the refined end of our 9-note range.
Is the D Kurd scale good for beginners?
Yes — D Kurd (D minor) is the most popular and most forgiving handpan scale; every note sits well together, so you can improvise from the first day while the scale still has the depth for serious composition.
What is the Handpan Harmony made of, and does it rust?
It is built from raw stainless steel, which is naturally rust-resistant thanks to its chromium content. Wipe it dry after playing and apply a light handpan oil occasionally, more often in humid or coastal climates.
How big and heavy is it?
It measures 58 cm in diameter and 28 cm in height and weighs about 4.3 kg — a full-size handpan that is still light enough to carry to lessons, sessions and the stage in a padded case.
Can I use it for sound healing and meditation?
Yes — the D Kurd scale and the long, shimmering sustain of stainless steel make it a natural fit for sound healing, yoga, meditation and ambient music, as well as everyday melodic play.
