Description

The yin yang steel tongue drum brings a symbol of balance to a compact, beginner-friendly instrument. This 8-note steel tongue drum is tuned in D Kurd (D minor) — the gentle, meditative scale at the heart of the handpan world — and its bronze face carries a hand-etched yin yang framed by a fine mandala border.

Materials & body

The shell is cut from resonant steel with a warm antique-bronze finish under a protective coating, so the surface keeps its glow with very little care. The yin yang and its mandala border are engraved into the metal itself — never a sticker or print — so the pattern will not peel or fade with playing.

The tongues & tuning

Eight tuned tongues are cut into the playing surface and voiced in D Kurd (D minor), a forgiving scale where there are no “wrong” notes — ideal for beginners and sound-healing work. The eight-note layout is wonderfully simple to learn and easy to carry. Play with the mallets or bare fingers for a clean, sustained tone.

Yin yang & symbolism

The yin yang represents balance — two opposites that complete each other, light and dark held in a single circle. On an instrument made to calm and centre, it is a quiet reminder of harmony, and a thoughtful gift for someone beginning a mindfulness practice. For a sacred-geometry pattern in the same size, see the Flower of Life tongue drum.
