Description
The decorated Persian daf by Echo brings the deep, shimmering voice of the frame drum together with a patterned, colourful head that turns the instrument into something to look at as much as to play. Made in Iran with a synthetic head, this daf carries colour and pattern across its playing surface — a visual identity on top of the daf’s traditional sound.
A head finished with colour and pattern
What sets this Echo daf apart is the decorated synthetic head: rather than a plain surface, the membrane is finished with colourful patterns that catch the eye on stage, in the studio, or on a wall between sessions. The design sits on a full-size 54 cm head, so the look comes with no compromise to the drum’s wide, resonant voice.
The same proven build
Beneath the pattern, this is the same instrument Echo is known for: a wide wooden frame just 5.5 cm deep, a light 0.72 kg body that is easy to hold and shake through long passages, and a synthetic head that holds its tuning through changes in humidity and temperature with no warming or special care.
Sound and rings
The voice is pure daf: a deep, washing bass at the centre, a bright metallic edge near the rim, and rows of small metal rings along the inner frame that answer every stroke with a soft, sweeping shimmer. The characteristic shaking motion turns that shimmer into the trance-like wash at the heart of Sufi and Persian rhythm.
