Description

The decorated Persian daf by Echo brings the deep, shimmering voice of the frame drum together with a patterned, colourful head that turns the instrument into something to look at as much as to play. Made in Iran with a synthetic head, this daf carries colour and pattern across its playing surface — a visual identity on top of the daf’s traditional sound.

A head finished with colour and pattern

What sets this Echo daf apart is the decorated synthetic head: rather than a plain surface, the membrane is finished with colourful patterns that catch the eye on stage, in the studio, or on a wall between sessions. The design sits on a full-size 54 cm head, so the look comes with no compromise to the drum’s wide, resonant voice.

The same proven build

Beneath the pattern, this is the same instrument Echo is known for: a wide wooden frame just 5.5 cm deep, a light 0.72 kg body that is easy to hold and shake through long passages, and a synthetic head that holds its tuning through changes in humidity and temperature with no warming or special care.

Sound and rings

The voice is pure daf: a deep, washing bass at the centre, a bright metallic edge near the rim, and rows of small metal rings along the inner frame that answer every stroke with a soft, sweeping shimmer. The characteristic shaking motion turns that shimmer into the trance-like wash at the heart of Sufi and Persian rhythm.

Who it is for

This decorated daf suits players who want a visually striking instrument for stage and performance as much as a reliable drum to play: Sufi and devotional players, Persian and Kurdish percussionists, sound-healing practitioners, and students drawn to a daf with personality. Its synthetic head keeps it stable and ready in any climate.

Care

Wipe the head gently to keep the pattern clean, store the drum away from direct heat and sunlight to protect both the colour and the rings, and check the rings stay seated. The synthetic head needs no humidity management and holds its tone year-round.

As a member of the Frame Drums family, this Echo daf sits alongside the Arabic Riq tambourine and the Darbuka goblet drum, while its meditative voice connects it to our wider Persian Daf range. Every daf is curated by our percussion specialist Gurkan Ozkan and inspected at our Brisighella, Italy showroom before shipping. Additional information

Weight0,72 kg
What makes this Echo daf different from a plain one?
Its synthetic head is finished with colourful decorative patterns rather than a plain surface, giving the drum a distinct visual identity for stage, studio, or display. The frame, size, rings, and sound are the same as Echo's standard 54 cm daf.
Does the pattern on the head affect the sound?
No. The decoration sits on the surface of a full-size 54 cm synthetic head, so the drum keeps the same deep central bass, bright edge tone, and shimmering ring response as an undecorated Echo daf.
What is this decorated daf made of?
A wide wooden frame fitted with a decorated synthetic head and ringed on the inside with rows of small metal rings. The synthetic head replaces natural skin, holds its tuning in any climate, and carries the colourful pattern across its playing surface.
How big is this daf and how much does it weigh?
The head measures 54 cm in diameter, the frame is 5.5 cm deep, and the whole instrument weighs 0.72 kg (720 g). The light frame makes it comfortable to hold upright and shake through long playing passages.
How do I care for the patterned head?
Wipe the head gently to keep the pattern clean, and store the drum away from direct heat and sunlight to protect both the colour and the metal rings. The synthetic head needs no humidity management and holds its tone year-round.
