Description

The Handpan Melodinng – 15 Notes in D Kurd is the most expansive handpan in our premium Melodinng line: a full 15-note instrument in the meditative D Kurd scale, with twelve notes across the top playing surface and three deep bass notes tuned into the bottom shell. Where a 9-note handpan invites you to begin, this 15-note D Kurd opens the whole range — melody above, bass below — for players ready to compose without limits.

Crafted from premium stainless steel, it carries the bright attack, long sustain, and natural rust resistance of the Melodinng line, here scaled up to a wider tonal map. The extra notes are hand-tuned to sit cleanly within the D Kurd scale, so the instrument stays harmonically coherent even as the range grows — every added note still belongs to the same calm, contemplative world.

The top shell holds the central doum and eleven surrounding tone fields, while three additional bottom notes — tuned into the lower shell beside the gu port — add a bass register most handpans simply do not have. Played with the fingers and the heels of the palms, a handpan like this moves from deep bottom-note grounding to high melodic runs within a single phrase. Each Melodinng 15 is individually tuned and tested.

A Full 15-Note D Kurd Range

The D Kurd scale — D minor with a natural seventh — is the world’s most-played handpan scale, loved for its calm, forgiving, meditative character. In its 9-note form it is the ideal first handpan; in this 15-note form it becomes a complete melodic instrument, with the range for layered composition, studio work, and full solo performance. The three bottom bass notes extend the scale downward, giving sound healers a deeper drone and musicians a true low end to build on.

The 15-Note Handpan in D Kurd

Within our range, this is the premium, full-range choice for experienced players and composers who have outgrown a 9-note instrument. It is the extended counterpart to the Melodinng 9-note D Kurd and our own-brand Tapadum D Kurd, and a natural step up for sound therapists who want both bass depth and melodic reach. Explore the full handpan collection and our wider sound healing instruments range.

Care & Maintenance

Premium stainless steel keeps the Melodinng naturally rust-resistant and forgiving, but a little care preserves its tone. Wipe the surface with a dry microfiber cloth after playing, and apply a light handpan oil occasionally, especially in humid or coastal climates. Keep it out of direct sun and intense heat, which can affect tuning, and store and travel with it in a padded case — a safety bag or hard cargo case is available.

Every Tapadum handpan is checked and tuned to 440 Hz before it ships. Free Shipping & 15-day return apply across the EU — reach out if you would like help choosing the right scale and range.

How is a 15-note handpan different from a 9-note?
It adds melodic range and three bottom bass notes, so you can play fuller compositions and a true low end — ideal for experienced players, studio work and solo performance.
What are the bottom notes for?
The three bass notes (E3, F3, G3) are tuned into the lower shell to add a deep register most handpans lack — a richer drone for sound healing and a real bass foundation for music.
Is a 15-note D Kurd suitable for beginners?
The D Kurd scale itself is forgiving, but the wider 15-note layout suits intermediate and advanced players; beginners often start with a 9-note and grow into this range.
What is the Handpan Melodinng made of, and does it rust?
It is built from premium stainless steel, which is naturally rust-resistant and stable across changing conditions. Wipe it dry after playing and apply a light handpan oil occasionally, more often in humid or coastal climates.
How big and heavy is it, and can I use it for sound healing?
It measures 58 cm in diameter and 28 cm in height and weighs about 4.3 kg. Its deep bottom notes make it especially rich for sound healing, meditation and ambient play, as well as full melodic performance.
